Cannot embed Visio 2003 drawing object in a Word 2003 document.

When trying to embed a Visio drawing into a Word document, I get the
following error:

"This object was created in visio the application is not available to open
this object. Make sure that the application is properly installed and that
it has not been deleted, renamed or removed".

I have tried everything; reinstalled, searched for help.. nothing.

Can someone please suggest something that might help fix this situation?

and is that version of visio installed on the system that word is installed
on?
