When I start a new document, the default page size is Letter. That's usually
fine, but sometimes I need to create document at Legal size (8.5 x 14). I can
change the page size so the document I'm working on is Legal size, but when I
close it and reopen later, it has reverted to Letter size and I have to
change the settings again.

How can I make Visio retain the page size for a specific document? (I'm
using Visio Professional 2002 SR-1)

In the Page Setup, do you have the page set to "Same as Printer"?
