Visio via Citrix Metaframe client - .vsd files not recognised as Visio files/objects and can not be inserted as Microsoft Visio Drawing object
(too old to reply)

Dear reader,

I hope you may be able to assist me with the following:

A user in my company would like to be able to insert a Microsoft Visio
Drawing into a Word document, as a Microsoft Visio Drawing object, in order
to be able to right-click this and select "Visio Object -> Edit/Open" within
the document.

Having Visio locally installed on the PC, this works as designed.

To save a little on licensing, we're running Visio via Citrix Metaframe
client but we have Visio Viewer locally installed to support at least
viewing of visio files even without Citrix.
I.e. the VSD file format is registered to IE.

Hence I see two challanges:
1. How to register VSD with Visio via Citrix
and
2. How to make Word recognise VSD to be a Visio Drawing Object and to
edit/open such into Visio via Citrix (1.)

I have posted the issue in the following newsgroups:
microsoft.public.visio
microsoft.public.visio.general
microsoft.public.visio.troubleshoot
microsoft.public.word.drawing.graphics
as well as to Citrix Systems Inc.

Kind regards,

Soren,

Not sure if you have had any other responses yet, but this sounds like more
of a Citrix issue/solution. I am assuming that the VSD file is stored on the
local desktop. Therefore you have the viewer association locally.

If you open the VSD file (saved to a network share) within a Citrix session
where Visio is installed, Visio should recognize the file with no problems.
If you want Citrix to map to associations on the local desktop, then you need
to look at the Citrix PNA client (Program Neighborhood Agent). It allows you
to double click on a local file and be associated with a Citrix-based
application. (I'm not a big fan of this client though.)

When using Visio, I usually create a jpg of the diagram I am creating and
then insert the picture into my Word document. It sizes easily, and is a bit
more flexible. Visio objects usually give me headaches. This solution works
well when bouncing between Citrix and local applications.

Hope these ideas help.
