Discussion:
Word to Visio OLE Error
(too old to reply)

This error has been reported elsewhere, but no one seems to have a fix.
When I double click on a Viso figure embedded in Microsoft Word 2000, I
get the following error:

"word is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action"

There is no "ignore" button as suggested elsewhere, only Switch, Retry,
Cancel. None of the buttons is any help.

Does anyone know the cause and solution for the problem? I just
installed Visio 2002 today (Windows XP SP1), and it seems to run fine,
but I cannot edit the figure, which I really need to do today!

Thanks!

what version of visio was used to create the embedded visio object? can they
send you the visio drawing itself?

I believe the problem is a bad video card. It's quite old. I installed
Visio on a newer computer and all went well. While it initially appeared
that Visio was working on its own, it was not. It was doing some funky
video stuff. I'm probably going to get a new computer anyway.

False alarm. I installed a new video card, and the problem persists.
With Visio open, if I double click on the embedded Visio drawing in
Word, the main document window in Visio captures the underlying image
that was on the screen beneath it. If I move the Visio frame around, the
image moves with it. Hard to describe.

This seems related to a known bug:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832129

However, I can't figure out how to get the hotfix without paying for a
support call. Can anyone get this fix and send me it?

Thanks!

You don't have to pay for the support call provided it is established that
you need the hotfix and you don't ask any questions about anything else.

Whoops. I read a little further down the page and found that it's a MS Server
2003 patch, not a patch for Word or Visio. My bad.
