Visio 2003 won't start

When I start Visio Pro 2003 it starts up almost all the way - I can see the
window with "choose drawing type" and the templates etc. However I get the
message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\Visio.exe

abnormal program termination

That's it, I click OK, app exits.

I don't even get the usual "send error to Microsoft" dialog.

This is XP Pro SP2. Office Update reports everything up-to-date.

What I've tried:

Removing and reinstalling
Removing Visio 2002 (used to be installed as part of Visual Studio
Architect)

Any suggestions...

In my case, this was caused by Adobe Acrobat. It installs a plug-in called
PDFMVisio.vsl. The fix is to search for this file, and rename any instances
to *.old (or delete them of course). Visio now starts OK.

Not the first time that Adobe have issued Acrobat code that **** things
