Discussion:
Visio viewed as Web Page

When I save my visio flow chart as a web page, it looks good, but I have a
few issues.

1. I don't want all of the info on the left to show up. How do I hide this
so the end user does not see it or have access to it.

2. I want the user to be able to call up documentation if they have a
question about a flow chart element. So I created a hyperlink on a shape and
save. I right click on the shape and the document comes up. However, when I
do this from the Web Page I created, I get an error:

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site
file:///I:/ITTroy..........Integration_Files/vml_1.htm

Operation Aborted

I have no idea why this is happening. I really don't want a web page
either. I just don't want the end user to be able to or have to open Visio
to access the document and an htm page looked like the easiest way.

I have the entire Office 2003 suite, so if there is any way that this can be
accomplished, please let me know. My real question, I guess, is: "How can I
link a shape to a Word Document on a LAN and generate my visio flow chart in
a format that everyone can view it?"

I ask for the world, but I can never hold it up!

Thanks!

1. You can limit the extra information exported by selecting the Publish
button on the Save As Web dialog, then choosing to include/exclude the
parts under "Publishing Options". If you de-select all of the options,
there should not be a left frame at all.

2. There are some extra actions to take to ensure that your references are
proper when the HTML output is created when you reference files outside of
Visio. This article may help to achieve your goals:
923700 Relative hyperlinks to files do not work in Visio 2007 Web pages
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;923700

Finally - you can avoid the need to save as web page, by having your target
audience use the free Visio 2007 Viewer. It can be installed from :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=d88e
4542-b174-4198-ae31-6884e9edd524

Folks who down't have Visio installed can view Visio drawings using the
Viewer - and hyperlinks are functional as well :-)
